Why GuideOS is Currently German-Only
We’ve received a lot of feedback regarding the language support of GuideOS, and we hear you: English is the "lingua franca" of the tech world. However, we’d like to share a bit of context about what GuideOS is and why we are currently focused on German.
A Passion Project, Not a Global Distro
First and foremost, GuideOS is a community-driven experiment and feasibility study. We aren’t a large corporation or a massive developer collective. We are a small team of five volunteers from a German Linux forum, building this project in our spare time.
Our goal isn't necessarily to become the next "big" mainstream distribution. Instead, we use GuideOS to explore what’s possible, using our forum for:
Real-time feedback and testing.
Community polls that directly shape the development path.
Direct communication between users and the core team.
The Challenge of Localization
Because we are such a small team, we have to focus our limited resources on development and stability. Maintaining a high-quality English translation requires more than just a one-time effort—it needs ongoing maintenance for every update and piece of documentation.
The Future is Open
We would love to offer GuideOS in English! To make this a reality, we need help from the community. Since we are a volunteer-run project, we are looking for:
Contributors who are willing to take over the translation and localization process.
Native speakers who can help us maintain the English documentation.
If you are interested in helping us bring GuideOS to an international audience, we would love to have you on board. Until then, we hope you understand that we are staying close to our roots to ensure the project remains manageable for our small team.
